Individual Tutoring
We understand that no two students are identical. We tailor our one-on-one tutoring to the specific needs and situations of each individual. We have at our disposal a wide array of tools, and we utilize them in such a way as to match the needs of our students and to achieve maximum results for them.
Group Tutoring
If you wish to arrange tutoring for a group of students, we will tailor a program for them. Advantages of group tutoring are that it costs less per individual student, and it allows for group interaction and engagement.
ISEE/SAT Prep
We offer in-home test preparation, as well as on-campus test preparation classes. Our outstanding results in test preparation are based on these factors:
(a) We tailor our instruction to the specific needs of each individual student;
(b) We don’t stress “gimmicks” to try to help one get by on a test; rather, we increase our students’ understanding and ability so that they truly know the material on the test; and
(c) We provide students with highly workable tools to make them into better independent thinkers and learners.
Comprehension and Study Skills Class
We have all seen a student struggle with a subject. Have you also seen a student memorize information and even get a good grade on the test—only to forget the information shortly thereafter? Have you ever seen a student depend on test-taking strategies and other “techniques” that were, in fact, mainly designed to make it possible to get by without genuine understanding? Knowledge is meaningful only to the degree that an individual truly understands it and can apply it. Further, information learned in school (or in college) today might be radically different in a few years. In life, one runs into new situations that require the ability to learn new ideas and skills. The concept of being a lifelong learner isn’t a cute idea; it’s a necessity.
Our study skills classes empower individuals in the area of learning how to learn. They provide students with tools to increase their level of understanding, as well as tools to fix the situation when they encounter material that they don’t immediately seem to be able to grasp. Students also practice using these tools on actual school work, which results in dramatic improvement in their ability to read with comprehension and to study independently.
Math Booster Class
Through the use of specially prepared diagnostic testing and tailored curriculum, this class helps to pinpoint and handle exact areas of weakness in math skills. It is designed to handle foundational material. [This would be material below the level of algebra, such as arithmetic, fractions, decimals, proportion, and percent.] Math is a subject that tends to move upward step by step in a linear fashion, much like climbing the rungs of a ladder. Once students miss just a few steps (for whatever reason), they “lose their balance” and can start piling up failures from that point forward. This class locates and handles weak areas and results in a huge boost in math ability and confidence.
Writing Skills Class
The amazingly rapid growth of information technology hasn’t reduced the need for writing; it has increased it. We live in an age wherein great quantities of written materials travel throughout companies and around the world on high-speed, information highways. More than ever, individuals are needed who can quickly compose clear, concise, and accurate written communications. It is through written communication that we inform, instruct, and persuade others, and the ability to write can open—or close—doors of opportunity.
Our writing class isn’t just about rules of grammar, spelling, and punctuation. These mechanical elements are vital to any piece of writing, but they don’t provide the fundamental answer to how to write effectively. Our writing class focuses on improving an individual’s ability to communicate successfully, and on how to organize and compose written presentations that get results.
English as a Second Language
Our English as a Second Language (ESL) classes are highly practical. We help students to build their vocabulary and to improve their ability to have real conversations. We make it easier to understand and speak English. Our ESL classes are available for adults or for children.
Parenting Workshops
Parents want the best for their children. They want their children to succeed in their education and in life. They want their children to be responsible. They want their children to be well equipped to survive and to reach positive goals. For all these good intentions, however, there is no escaping the fact that parenting is hard work. Our workshops provide practical, workable tools to make the job easier and more effective.
Workshops are available on the following topics:
• Fundamentals of Helping Children Understand What They’re Studying
• Effective Communication with Children
• Fundamentals of Handling Children
• Establishing Good Control with Children
• Achieving increased Responsibility and Contribution with Children
Each workshop is 2 hours in length.
Reading Skills for Toddlers
The early, formative years are the cornerstone of a child’s education--a time period of terrific growth and change in language, thought, emotion, and physical skills. During this period, it is incumbent upon adults to stimulate and nurture the inherent potential in children. Creating a tall, strong building becomes much easier when one establishes a wide, strong foundation. We help to provide the step-by-step guidance that builds a future of children who have a confident ability in and love for reading. With that, virtually all subjects of learning are opened to them.
Homeschool Support
An increasing number of studies, statistics, and evidence demonstrate the effectiveness of homeschooling—including the fact that homeschooled students are among those accepted into Ivy League colleges. In fact, in the broader scheme of history homeschooling is not so much a new idea as it is a return to a traditional form of education. Some parents seek to set up their own private home school but need some help because they don’t know what subject matter to include, they’re not sure how to teach certain topics, they don’t know how to get started, etc. We provide flexible, affordable options of support to such parents, so as to help guide them onto a path of certainty and success.
